Yovania and Anabel had a half day internship at the kindergarten, spending some time with younger children as well as the older ones. Then they had a special after-class activity called “Let’s play in English” in the afternoon. In this photo, they sang “Head, shoulders, knees, and toes” in Japanese and English.
二人は午前中、４歳児のクラスにも入って絵本読みをしたり、給食も一緒に食べる機会がありました。午後からは、彼女たちが中心になって進める「えいごであそぼう」が開催されました。この写真は、”Head, shoulders, knees, and toes”を日本語と英語で歌っているところです。

They also read the Very Hungry Caterpillar to the 3-year-olds using flannel board pieces, getting children involved in the story. After that they sang “Open shut them.” It is a classical kids song that they could expand on to include opposites vocabulary to children in the US, but probably not in Japan. Young children always enjoy this finger game.
「はらべこおあむし」のパネルシアターも、３歳児が参加できるように工夫されていて楽しめたようです。写真は「むすんでひらいて」の英語バージョンをしているところですが、こちらも人気のある手遊びのようです。

The simplicity and repetition of these songs guarantee active participation by encouraging children to sing and move with the music. In this photo, five-year-olds performed very well. Clap clap clap!
簡単で繰り返しの多い歌はこどもが真似をしやすく、体を使って参加しやすいのが魅力です。写真は５歳児が中心の２回目のセッションですが、とてもうまくできていました。パチパチ！

Finally we said goodbye to each child and gave him or her a high five. We had a great time!
最後は一人ずつ「さよなら」を言ってハイファイブをして、終わりました。皆なとても楽しい時間を過ごせたようです！
