Time flies! The students are already on their second week! In the morning, they visited Fratto and talked to mothers with children under three years old. At first, I gave a talk about cultural awareness and diversity during early childhood and asked Gloria and Michaelyn to read some books in English and Spanish. Later we sang some fingerplay and action songs. Fingerplays have rhyming words, repetitive phrases, and simple movements. They are fun and engaging, which means the children are much more likely to remember them. Michaelyn also demonstrated American Sign Language with reading.
早いもので、このプログラムも２週目に入りました。今日の午前中はふらっとに来てもらい、「子育て講座」に参加してもらいました。最初は私からお母さんたちに、小さい子ども時代の文化の多様性や音に関する敏感さについて話をし、その後二人に、英語とスペイン語で絵本読みをしてもらいました。さらには、手遊び歌がいかに頭に残りやすいか、子どもがいつの間にか覚えてしまうかの一端を体験してもらいました。マイケリンは手話で本も読んでくれ、手話も言語の一つであることを知らせてくれました。

At lunch time we had a meeting about a “Let’s play in English” project with some volunteer students to assist Cabrillo students. They tried to make lesson plans to make learning English fun. They all wondered how learning can be made attractive at a young age. They finally included a Hello song, felt story (the very hungry caterpillar) board and activities, and singing “Twinkle, twinkle little star” while Michaelyn plays the guitar. Wish them luck!
昼休みには、幼稚園で２日後に行われる「えいごであそぼう」の打ち合わせをしました。ボランティア学生が集まってくれました。小さな子どもたちに、いかにして英語の活動を楽しんでもらえるかをみんなで考えました。最終的には、Helloソングで始まり、パネルシアターで「はらぺこあおむし」の活動を子どもたちと一緒に行い、マイケリンのギターに合わせて「きらきらぼし」を歌い、終わりにすると言う計画になりました。うまく行きますように！
