このコーナーは読むことが苦手な子に個人指導をするところのようです。このクラスには支援が必要な子が６人いると担任の先生が言っていました。アシスタントが一人いましたが、先生はそれぞれのテーブルの準備で忙しそうでしたね。

In this corner, children with reading difficulty can be helped by a teacher. The classroom teacher said there were 6 children with special needs in this class. She looked very busy moving around each table to keep children busy with meaningful work while they were waiting for another activity.

こちらのクラスでも、Ｋの練習中でした。Ｋの形を粘土で作っていました。Ｋと音が同じであるＣも粘土で作って比べていましたね。音と文字とスペルが複雑な関係にある英語はこのレベルはとても大事になります。

In this class also, childen were practicing a letter K/k. They made letters k and c shapes out of play dough. Letters k and c are different but make the same sound. Teaching children read with phonics is a fun way to teaching literacy. Children had a hard time reading “knife”, though!

こちらはこのクラスの一斉授業風景です。DVDの教材を使って、歌でＫの書き順を覚えていました。

This is another whole class activity watching a DVD to sing along with a letter “k” song and learn how to write it, by tracing the shape of “k” in the air.

午前中の休み時間が20分ほどあって、その後おやつの時間になりました。家から持ってきたクラッカー、果物、ヨーグルト、中には味付けのりをおいしそうに食べている子もいました。

There was a morning recess and then snack time. Children were having crackers, fruits, and yogurt. A girl enjoyed eating sweet seaweed snack.

I played the game with Barbara and saw her magic after school. I didn’t understand how to play it at first. But Paula and Barbara explained to me again and again, so finally I was able to join the game. On St. Patrick’s Day, we went to grandma’s house and had dinner together. Then we went to the beach.
