こちらの部屋でもごっこ遊びをしながら、お話をしてくれています。この学生は去年この保育所が気に入って、今年は2回目の参加です。特別な理由がなければ２回の参加は難しいのですが、彼女は卒論のテーマにここの施設を取り上げるということで参加が認められました。These children told stories while playing the house. This student really liked this childcare center when she participated in this program last year, so she came here again to ask Jim and his wife many questions so that she can write her senior thesis on family day care.

こちらでも地図を見ながら、ジムが子どもたちに日本がどこになるかを尋ねています。そうしていたら、一人の男の子が「ナイジェリアはどこ？」と自分の生まれたところを探しに来ました。さらに、手前にいるアシスタントはコロンビア出身ということで、コロンビアの場所もみんなで探していました。子どもたちの頭の中の地図には日本のことはどのような優先順位で残っていくのでしょうか。

Looking at the world map, Jim asked some children where Japan was. Then one of them came up to Jim and asked where Nigeria was, so they found his birthplace in the map. An assistant is from Columbia so the children tried to find it as well. The map can help them keep the word like countries in their visual memory.

こちらは、今年初めてお世話になるところです。山奥の自然に中に作られた保育所で、バスは通っていないためメリサンドが送り迎えとなりました。雨が小降りになってきたこともあり、外遊びにはしゃいでいる子どもたちを学生たちは汗だくで引っ張っていました！

This is a new preschool 4 students went for the first time this year. There is no bus that goes up to the site so Melisande drove them to the school and picked them up after school. As the rain was letting up, the children were having fun in a wagon.

この２人の入ったクラスでは、音楽の先生がリズム遊びをギターに合わせてやっていましたね。「幸せなら手をたたこう」の英語版を手をたたく代わりに、この棒でたたくというのを指導していましたが、この年齢の子どもたちはとにかくたたくのが好きでなかなか２回だけ叩くのが難しそうでしたが、最後の方はできるようになるものです！

A music teacher was playing the guiter in the classroom to teach how to　clap poles. While singing “When you’re happy and you clap your hands,” the children were practicing clapping poles twice instead of clapping hands. It seemed hard for them to clapping poles only twice but they got better.

学生からのホストファミリー先の写真とコメントです。この学生たちは新しい家ができるまでの間、トレーラーハウス２台で住んでいるところにホームスティしています。
