今日は、保育所実習の２日目です。昨日報告できなかったところの実習の様子と、その後の最後のミーティングの様子を報告します。この写真のところでは、紙でっぽうを紹介してそれで遊んでいるところです。子どもたちはコツをつかむとパンと音が鳴って大喜びしていましたね。先生もとても協力的でした。

In this photo, these students presented how to play a paper popgun that makes a popping sound like a paper cracker. A popgun is made of any paper, and single impulsive sound is generated by swinging down the popgun. Some children got excited when they made sounds, while some needed more practice or help from their teacher. Thanks to the teachers’ cooperation, this activity went well.

この部屋では、紙皿を２枚を重ねることで、そこに書かれている絵がマジックのように変わっていく様子がずいぶん好評だったようです。そこで急きょ先生が紙皿を用意してくれて、この写真は子どもたちがそれぞれ２枚の紙皿に絵をかいているところです。このマジックは明日の修了式でも披露する予定です！

These students showed their artwork made of two paper plates. The classroom teacher really liked it so she wanted to give her children opportunities to make their own. First, they drew something on each of two paper plates and got two plates putting one on the other. And they showed a magic! A drawing on the plate changes to another one! This magic will be demonstrated at the graduation ceremony tomorrow!

男の子は自分で作った作品を先生に見せてに行っているところです。他の友達の前でも誇らしげに見せていました。

これは子どもにわかりやすく書かれている手洗いの手順です。英単語２語で簡素化して書かれていますが、この表現なら学生たちもわかりますよね！

Even my students can read these hand washing steps. They are all two-word sentences, telling you everything you need! Hand washing is a simple way to avoid getting sick! So two words can change the world?!

今日も、実習終了後に大学に戻り、ひとりひとりからそれぞれの実習先での振り返りをしてもらいました。様々な発見や驚きや疑問点も挙げられていていました。例えば、あるクラスの隅には、”Peace Table”というテーブルが置いてあって、ケンカをした子どもたちはそこに行かなくてはならなくて、そこで自分たちで話し合って仲直りをするところになっているといいます。それができたら先生にそれを報告に行くのだそうです。それを聞いた先生は平和のベルを鳴らすようです。世界で起こっている戦争もこうやって解決できるといいですね。

All the students came back to Cabrillo again after having finished their internships at preschools. Each one of them reported what she learned in the classroom and how the activity went. They included so many good ideas, surprises, and discovery. For instance, one of the students noticed there was a “Peace Table” they called in the corner of the classroom. Children who had arguments or fight over a toy had to go there. They talked to each other to solve the problem by themselves. When they were reconciled, the teacher rang the bell to cerebrate. We wish to put an end to war in the world as those children do at the preschool!

このプログラムの実施にはたくさんの教員やスタッフがかかわっていますが、中でもこちらの中心メンバーはなくてはならない方々です。学生部長のSesario、ECE学科長のJean、国際交流室のコーディネーターのAnna、さらにホームスティに関するすべてと全体のプログラムの調整をしてくれている現地コーディネータのKenとJinsuの情熱と貢献には今年も感謝の言葉でいっぱいです。

This program has been supported by many people, particularly these core organizing members; Sesario, Jean, Anna from Cabrillo College, and Ken and Jinsu as local coordinators. ホストファミリ先からの写真もこれで最後です。この二人はうどんを今日作ったようですね。

We are enjoying our life with a happy fun family. There are Dad who can do everything, Mom who cooks well, and cheerful cute children. Today we cooked Japanese needle soup with curry flavor. (Written by Yuka and Yukari, translated by hk)
