今日は４時から修了式とお別れ会が開かれました。カブリヨ大学関係者やすべてのホストファミリーが集まってくれました。学生たちは朝から自主的に集合して、合唱の練習したりスピーチの原稿を作ったり、ホストファミリーに渡す思い出の品作りをしていたようです。

We had a graduation ceremony and party at 4:00pm in the building on the top of the hill. The students prepared all morning for this final event: practicing singing (in this photo) and making thank-you cards to show their appreciation to their host families.

Sesarioの計らいで、カブリヨのスクールマスコットであるSammy Seahawk(かもめの一種）に来てもらいました。学生たちは全員Sesarioから贈られたパーカーを着ていて、その胸のところにもSammyがついています！

Thanks to Sesario’s idea to invite Sammy Seahawk, a mascot of Cabrillo College, the students took a lot of photos with Sammy who doesn’t speak any language. All the students were wearing hoodies with Sammy print　on them.

今年の夏、文京に来るMelissa（Melisandeの左横にいる人）も来てくれました。Melisandeからたくさん日本での様子を話しておいてもらうことにしました。もう一人も少し遅れて来ていました。このプログラムは双方向の交換研修であるところが特徴です。

This summer Melissa (next to Melisande in the photo) majoring in ECE will be coming to Bunkyo as an exchange student. Another, Mireya, was late for this event but the two Cabrillo students were the Bunkyo scholarship recipients to do their internships in Fujimino kindergarten as Melisande and Emily (who was also at the party today)did last year. So in these two-way internship programs, students from both Bunkyo and Cabrillo can learn and help each other.

文京の教員からのお礼のスピーチの後で、学生からの一言ということで、すみれさんが英語での短いスピーチをしてくれました。

After the teacher from Bunkyo made a short speech, one of the students, Sumire, gave a talk in English to express her appreciation to her host familiy and the teachers and staff in the room today.

今年の基調講演はSesarioにお願いしました。幼児教育における基礎つくりの大事さとマズローの自己実現理論の話を、分かりやすく話してくれました。実は、彼は今年で引退することをここで発表し、今年のグループが最後になることもあり最後は彼も感極まって泣いていました。

Sesario was a keynote speaker this year. He talked about the importance of early childhood education and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs: the higher levels of needs (self-actualization and self-esteem) rest upon the foundation of the lower levels needs (love/belonging, safty, physiological). He announced that he was going to retire from a 40-year career in education,so working for this group became one of his last projects. Thank you, Sasario, and we all miss you!

この写真のように、一人ずつSesarioから修了証書をもらいました。Jeanが気管支炎のため急きょ出られくなり、AnnaとSherrieがサポートしてくれました。皆さん、おめでとう！

Each of the students received a Certificate of Completion of the program. Jean from ECE department was sick today so Anna and Sherrie assisted Ken in organizing the ceremony. Congratulations on your completion of the program, everyone!
