■ Cabrillo College（アメリカ カリフォルニア州 サンタクルーズ） で、3/15〜3/31までの海外短期フィールドワークです。

多くの子どもたちが「こんにちは」と覚えたての日本語で寄ってきてくれたのは、嬉しかったですね。持って行った折り紙で手裏剣、鶴、飛行機を折ってあげるのに忙しかった学生もいたようです。最後にみんなで、 “Say Mr. D”（校長先生の名前のイニシャルがD）というように校長先生より指示され記念の集合写真を撮りました。これを学校のニューズレターにも掲載したいと言っていました。
The students were all happy to hear children saying “Konnichiwa” that they’ve just learned from us. Some were very busy making origami throwing stars (Ninja stars), origami cranes, and origami airplanes. The principal said to say “Mr. D” which is the initial of his name instead of “Cheese” when he took this photo. He mentioned that this photo would be appeared in the school newsletter.

最後に、Mr. Dとも一緒に撮りました！ また来年も新しいグループで来ます！
The last photo the students wanted to take was the one with Mr. D! I’ll be back again next year with a new group!

今日の英語のレッスンは、事情があってこんな教室になってしまいました。グループも作りにくいし、先生が回って歩くのも大変そうでしたね。でも、講義を受けているような気分になれたのは、よかったようです！ 子ども向けの絵本を読んでその概要と良さを伝え合うアクティビティに、学生たちは悪戦苦闘していました。今日、見学した２年生のクラスでも同じようなことをやっていましたね。もっと難しい本の書評でしたが．．．！
The classroom we had reserved was not a lecture room like this but things are not the way they are supposed to be! It looked hard to do small group activities in this room and the teacher had a hard time walking up and down to see each group! However, the students kind of liked it because they felt as if they were taking a difficult lecture course! You never know what pleases them! The students in pairs were struggling with the activity where they read a children’s picture book, discussed it, and jotted down ideas. Does this sound familiar to you? Right, this was what the 2nd graders were doing when the students visited their class, only the 2nd graders’ books were much harder!

子どもたちの日常の活動を使って、過去形の作り方の練習もありました。どれも簡単なことばばかりなのですが、口をついてそれを言えるようになるには、もうちょっと時間がかかりそうですね。「蚊に刺されちゃった」って子どもになんて言いますか？ この紙の左端の下から3つ目にあります。（正解：You got stung by a mosquito.）
The students practiced using the past tense through saying children’s daily activities seen in the above photo. Those words and expressions seem easy at a glance but it may take a little more time for such phrases to come out naturally and automatically. But the students are lucky because they have a chance to use those expressions in real life here! That’s what you came here for, students!
