今日（水）と明日（木）は、保育所実習です。学生たちは４つの保育所に分かれて実習です。Coastal Community Preschoolに行った６名の報告です。サンタクルーズのダウンタウンでバスを乗り継いで行くことも学習しましたね！　この２人のクラスでは早速、地図を見ながら、先生が日本の位置とカリフォルニアの位置を教えた後、学生たちがどういうルートでやっててきたのかを聞いていました。地図を指さしながらこうやって来たと示したときに、日本の地図とは違って、太平洋が右と左に分かれて描かれていたのに気付いたのではないでしょうか。

The students will spend today and tomorrow interning at four different preschools. Six students went to Coastal Community Preschool this morning, transferring from the bus from Cabrillo to the one to UCSC at SC Metro Center to get to the preschool. Perhaps nobody in their families knows how to do that!  These students were introduced in this pre-K class where children were looking at the world map in front of them and asked how they came from. As they showed how they flew here from Japan, they have noticed that the Pacific Ocean on the map was located on the far western and eastern edges, which is different from the map we usually see in Japan!

この２人は３〜４歳児のクラスに入って、まずはサークルタイムから参加し、その後自由遊びにはいったところです。それぞれのテーブルごとに教材がおいてあり、好きなテーブルに行って遊んでいました。しかし、この子は日本からの訪問者に興味があるようでした！　一生懸命に何か自分のはいている靴の飾りについて話していました。わかってもらえたでしょか。

These students first observed circle time for a 3- and 4- year olds class.  And then the children were spread across the room busily playing at the sand table, dramatic play area, dollhouse table, and with puzzles. However, this girl seemed more interested in visitors from Japan than playing with blocks!  She was at least interested in getting her attention.

この２人は、一番小さい子のクラスに入っています。外遊びが終わった後に、ちょっとした先生とのミスコミュニケーションで部分実習を今日やることになったようです！　用意はしてきていたので、やれたのはよかったですね。この子たち４人は最初、この２人 の英語の説明がはじまった時、この世のものとは思われない何かが始まったという目をして聞いていたのがかわいかったですね！

These students were in the classroom for the youngest children. After the outdoor play, a half of the children were asked to go back to the room because these students were going to do their project. The students thought that they would do the activity tomorrow, but they somewhat misunderstood what the teacher said.  But they decided to do their activity today. When they started speaking with Japanese accents, these four boys stared at them with their eyes wide open as if they had met aliens or the like!  They were so cute!

２歳半からの小さい子でしたが、桜の花びらを木に張り付けていくことがだんだんできるようになっていたのに、学生たちは感動していました。最後はのりを自分でつけて貼っていた子もいました！

Even two and a half year olds were able to glue a leaf to a sheet of paper and draw some pictures. The students were impressed by their concentration. One of them even tried to do everything by himself!

こんなに上手にできました！　桜の花は日本でも今ごろ満開でしょうか！

Well done, children!  Cherry trees are in full bloom in Japan now!
