今日も子どもの気持ちになって遊ぶ感覚を十分に味わいました。最後に、この授業でも実際に振り返り・反省会（reflection）の時間を持ちました。シートが配られ、概念・知識として得られたもの、感動したこと、ぜひ日本に持って帰って試したいアイディアの３つの観点から振り返ってもらいました。ここでもたくさんの意見がでましたが、１つだけ紹介しておきます。それは「子どもたちに保育・教育をすることで世界が変えられるという話は、今までも聞いたことはあるが、あまりにも漠然としていて現実性がなかったが、ここでそのことを本当に信じて実践している人たちがいるのを見て、感動した。」です。子どもは未来の宝とも言われているが、未来だけではなくて現在も子どもは立派な社会の一員であることを忘れてはいけないと、メリサンドからもコメントがありました。子どもの人権を尊重するということですね。
At the end of today’s lesson, we had a reflection session as the reflective teaching is an important part of ECE. In any learning situation, we should prepare for it beforehand, participate actively during it, and reflect on it afterwards. The students were asked about any concepts they’ve learned, anything they were touched, and new ideas that they wanted to go back home. Again there were a variety of responses from the students. One of them is as follows: a student has heard that teaching children is an important job and can change the world, but she thought that was so vague and unrealistic. However, she has been impressed by Cabrillo ECE teachers who really believe that children taught by us can really change the world and try hard to make it happen. Then Melisande commented that people say children are our future, but they are not only our future but also have been already members of our society/community now.

午後からは、シェリーの最後のESLクラスです。この日に、来週からの実習で行う部分実習の英語のチェックをしてもらうことになっていました（忘れて持ってこなかった人がいたようですが．．．）。このペアーは「ぶんぶんごま」の制作をする様子を発表していました。うまくいくためには準備が大事です。
The students had the last ESL lesson this afternoon. They were supposed to bring all the materials to the last class so that Sherrie could check their English. I shouldn’t say here who didn’t bring it, but… anyway, this pair was showing how to make a top and spin the top. They need to practice harder in order to get the job done.

このペアーは紙皿でだるまを作るようですね。ノートを見ずに子どもたちの顔を見ながら指示が与えられるでしょうか。週末の猛練習に期待しましょう。
These students planned to make Daruma dolls with paper plates. They also need to practice explaining how to make it without reading the notes. They should look at children and tell them the directions, not reading them. I hope they will be ready by the end of this weekend, which comes really soon!

シェリーに教わったことをしっかりおさらいして、後半の一週間ももっと楽しんでもらいたいものです。特に４日間の実習がこのプログラムのハイライトにもなるので、実践力のあるところを発揮してもらいましょう！ 辛抱強く教えてくれたシェリー先生に感謝です！
Sherrie taught the students what they needed to know, so they should make the most out of what they’ve learned for the last half of their stay and have fun. In particular, having their internships for 4 days is the highlight of the program. I’m looking forward to hearing from their reflections next week. Thank you for teaching them, Sherrie!
