今日から2日間は保育所実習です。3つの場所で行われます。
ここはディスカバリー保育所のバンビニクラスで、2、3歳のクラスです。サークルタイムでみんなに学生たちが紹介されているところです。すぐに名前を憶えている子もいましたね。
This is Bambini class for 2-3 years olds at Discovery Preschool. They were having a circle time welcoming friends from Japan. It was amazing for some girls to learn students’ names so quickly and correctly!

今日のスナックは外でした。今日は変わりやすい天気でしたが、天気のいい日はなるべく外でのおやつを楽しむようです。クリームチーズをぬったベーグルをおいしそうに食べています。左にいるのが、このクラスの担任のひとりであるエドナリリーです。カブリヨの学生の時、文京に来て実習をしました。
Children went out for a snack. It was partly sunny but later it got cloudy with scattered showers. They had half a bagel with a little cream cheese on it. They seemed to enjoy it. Teacher Ednaarely on the left came to Bunkyo when she was a Cabrillo student.

プリスクーラーのクラスは、3歳児と4〜5歳児で分けて活動をする時が多いようです。このクラスは3歳児クラスですが、きらきら星を日本語で歌って迎えてくれました。その後も、日本についての質問を先生が子どもたちから受けてそれに答えてもらったり、文京の学生に子どもたちへ質問がないかを聞いてくれました。例えば、「ここに何のために来たの」「日本からはどうやって来たの」「日本の子どもはどんなことをしているの」などに「あなたたちのようなアメリカの子どもや学校の勉強をするために来たよ」「飛行機でやってきたの」「日本の子どもは砂場で遊ぶのが好きみたいよ」と答えていました。「どんなおもちゃで遊ぶのが好きですか」という学生からの質問には、たくさんの手が挙がっていました。その後は、日本語で”butterfly”、”dog”は何というかなどを聞かれていました。とっても意欲的な3歳児です！
Preschoolers were divided into two groups; one for 3 years olds and the other for 4 to 5 years olds. These are 3 years olds, singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars in Japanese (Kirakiraboshi). It was quite impressive. They had a lot of questions to ask a Bunkyo student: For instance, “Why did you come here from Japan?”, “How did you come here?” and “What do children in Japan usually do at school?” The student answered “I came here to study about children like you and the school”, “I came here by plane”, and “Japanese children like to play in the sand.” The student in turn asked a question such as “What kind of toy do you want to play with?” The children gave her all kinds of answers. They also wanted to know some Japanese words like butterfly (choucho) and a dog (inu).

こちらは4、5歳児グループです。このようなダンスをして学生を迎えてくれました。こちらも、日本語に興味を示している子どもは多く「おはよう」「こんにちは」「ありがとう」などの日本語は、去年までに文京から来ていた学生たちに教えてもらったのだそうです。
The group of four to five years olds also sang and did a circle dance to welcome a Bunkyo student. They know some Japanese which were taught by former students from Bunkyo. For instance, they say “Ohayoo,” (Good morning) “Konnichiwa,”(Hello) and “Arigatou.”(Thank you)

おやつ時間にはピーナッツバターをつけたベーグルを食べていました。とてもおいしそうでした。
At snack time, they had bagels with peanut butter on them. They had a good appetite.
