こちらの学生たちは「福笑い」の部分実習をしているところです。アメリカにも似たようなゲームがあるので、担任の先生にわかってもらえれば、その後はずいぶん助けてくれていました。しかし、子どもたちは右と左をまだ知らないので、代用にサイド1、2という言葉を先生が作ってくれて工夫が必要でした。目隠しも慣れていないようで、見ながらやっている子どもも最初はいたようですが、そこは臨機応変に進められたようです。出来上がった顔を見てみんなで笑えることが目的で、それは達成したようでした。

These students were doing their project after snack.  Fukuwarai, which is like “Pin the tail on the donkey,” is one of the Japanese traditional games people play on New Year’s day.  It is a puzzle of a human face, and a player has to do the puzzle wearing a blindfold.  Since players cannot see which part of the face is on the piece of the puzzle, other people shout instructions; for example, “Move up or down,” “To the left or right.”  They found that children don’t know right or left, so the teacher suggested they use side 1 and 2 instead.  The face made up by the blindfolded player is usually quite funny.
