午後からは、シェリー先生の最初の英語のクラスがありました。ここで習った英語はホストファミリーとの会話にも直結しているため、英語を習うことが机上の勉強ではなく、毎日の生活の必需品として楽しめますね。さらに、学生たちは実習に備えて、子どもたちとのコミュニケーションを取れるようなスキルも獲得しなければいけません。子どもの大好きな手遊び歌を、紙を見ずに一緒に歌いながらできるようになりたいですね！ 「開いて結んで」「小さな小さなクモ」のようなインターアクティブな歌は、子どもとの距離を近づけてくれるツールのひとつです！
The students took Sherrie’s first English class in the afternoon. They enjoyed learning English because they need to know how to say something in English to communicate with their host families. They also need to know English in order to communicate with children at schools. So they learn how to sing children’s songs with a finger play such as “Open shut them” and ”Itsy-Bitsy Spider.” Interactive songs invite children to participate and communicate socially.

この教室は、“Peace Library”（平和図書館）という名前の図書館を併設しています。特に子どもの人権を尊重して厳選された世界中の絵本が、ずらりと並んでいます。今日の授業の最後は、ここの図書館を開放してもらい、そこからペアーで本を一冊選んで、それを共有する”Book report”（読書会）が行われました。
This classroom has a library called Peace Library for children. So the last activity they did today was to choose a book in the library for a book report. The students worked in pairs and took turns sharing their outlines of the book with the class.
