今日の午前中は、子どもセンターでの2回目の観察実習です。今回は焦点を絞った観察を課題としました。子ども、先生、遊び場・種類、またはその組み合わせを自分の興味に合わせて決めて、1時間の観察記録を取ってもらいました。その後は、メリサンドにも参加してもらい、一人ひとり振り返り、日米の保育の違いや類似点を話し合いました。詳細は帰国後の報告書に書いてもらいますが、例えば、子どもが一人の人間としてどのように尊敬されているかや、保育者はファシリテーターであることの意味などは面白い討論となりました。その他にも、質問は、自由おやつ時間、喧嘩の仲裁、片付け、トイレ訓練・学習、異年齢交流など、多岐に渡りました。日本に持ち帰って深く考えたいテーマも多く出たのではないかと思います。

This morning the students had the 2^nd observation in the Children’s Center which was a focused observation.  For instance, they had to choose a child, a teacher, an area of play, or the combination of any of them to observe carefully for about an hour. When they came back from the observation room, we shared what they observed and Melisande answered all the questions that they asked and commented on their reflections.  They were aware of how children were respected and their teachers behaved like facilitators.  Their questions included things about open snack time, peer conflicts, clean-up time, toilet training/learning, and the interaction of children of different ages.  We had many excellent ideas and interesting discussions.
