タラレッドウッド小学校には4人の学生が実習に行っていました。この学校はモンテッソーリのカリキュラムを基本に、東洋の思想も取り入れた私立の小さな学校です。異年齢クラスが主体になっています。
Four students had their internships at Tara Redwood Elementary School yesterday and today. This school offers a Montessori-based curriculum combined with other educational approaches in a mixed-ages, open classroom setting.

このクラスは2年生から4年生までの13名の子どもたちが、思い思いに学んでいました。ちょうどこの日は、オーストラリアのアボリジニのドットアートについての鑑賞と、それについてどう感じたかをトピックセンテンスを考え、3つ以上の形容詞を使って書く課題が与えられていました。学生たちも一緒に書いていましたが、難しかったですね！
This class has 13 students from 2nd to 4th grade. They were learning Aboriginal Dot Art and writing a paragraph about this dot art with using three adjectives to describe their feelings about creating art.

こちらは、日本で言う年長組と1年生のミックスのクラスです。先生から、突然ハローソングという英語の挨拶歌の日本語版を作ってくれないかと頼まれました。実際には日本語訳の歌はないので、即席に作って学生に覚えてもらって、それを披露しました。少しメロディーから外れていましたが、子どもたちと先生は何度も日本語で歌ってくれました。“ ♪ こんにちは、こんにちは、お元気ですか。元気です。元気です。あなたはどうですか ♪ ”
This class is for TK, K, and 1st graders. The teacher asked me how to sing a “Hello, hello, hello how are you?” song in Japanese. We don’t have a Japanese version of this song but I quickly translated it into Japanese and make a hello song with the same melody. It goes like this :Konnichiwa, Konnichiwa, ogenki desuka. Genkidesu, genkidesu. Anataha do desuka. They practiced learning some words like konnichiwa and gennki desuka first. Then the children tried to sing along with Chinatsu and Tomoka repeatedly. They did it well!

今日の午後はカブリヨ大学にもどり、振り返りの会をしました。それぞれ実習に行った場所からの報告と部分実習がどうなったかを出し合いました。特に、驚いたことや疑問に思ったこと、日本との違いなど、それぞれの場所での感想が異なるので、全体的なディスカッションに持っていくのに大変でしたが、皆さん一人一人がいろんなことを感じた2日間の保育実習だったようです。詳しくは報告書を参照にしてください。私は司会に忙しくて、写真を撮るのをすっかり忘れて、一枚も撮れませんでした！
The students came back to Cabrillo this afternoon and had a meeting to review their observations and reflections on their learning experiences in the preschool classrooms. I forgot to take any photos during the review session because I was too busy to facilitate the discussion! The students noticed very important aspects of childcaring practice in the preschools they had observed for two days. They also said that their projects went fairly well. For details, please read the paper they will write when they go back to Japan. They looked much more confident now! Two more days to go!
