また今年も、ついに修了式がやってきました。毎年言っていますが、本当に短い２週間でした！ 家族はもちろん、カブリヨの関係者やこの夏文京に研修に来る学生２人と、過去に文京に来てくれた学生も参加してくれたのは、うれしかったです。ケンさんの挨拶に続き、大学を代表して教員から感謝の気持ちを皆さんに述べ、その後で学生を代表して鈴木茉利奈さんが、ホストファミリーが本当の自分たちの子どものように扱ってくれたこと、ケンさん、ジンスさんが細部にわたって助けてくれたこと、Jean とMelisandeには「すべての子どもが特別である」ことを教えてもらったこと、さらにSherrieは辛抱強く英語を教えてくれたこと等、感謝の気持ちを述べました。
Finally, we had a graduation ceremony today. I said the same thing every year but it was true again that two weeks passed so quickly, faster than ever! All the host families, Cabrillo teachers and students including two students selected for going to Bunkyo this summer and formers scholarship recipients to Bunkyo participated in the ceremony. First Ken greeted them, briefly telling about how this program was created. Then I thanked them all for their continued support of the program, enthusiasm, patience, and love to our students. On behalf of the members of the group, Marina also gave a thank-you speech, thanking host families who treated them as their own children, Ken and Jinsu who organized the whole program, Jean and Melisande who taught them “Every child is special,” and Sherrie who patiently taught them English.

次に、それぞれの学生が名前を呼ばれ、前に来て修了証書をJeanから受け取りました。ここには数名しか挙げていませんが、全員無事、修了証書を手にしました！
Each student received Certificate of completion on ECE at Cabrillo College. This year each got a Cabrillo pen and pin in addition to the certificate.

それぞれの家族に学生からの感謝のスピーチです。こちらは、お母さんのフランシスは急用で来れなかったのですが、息子さんのマーテインがしっかり言葉を聞いていました。知奈津さんと友香さんはこの会場に一番乗りし、しかも５分前についたグループでした。凄いです！
Chinatsu and Tomoka’s appreciation to Martin and Frances. Unfortunately, Frances was not with them today. Thanks to Martin, they came here 5 minutes before the starting time, the first group arriving here! Amazing, girls!

男子学生の参加はいつも一人（二人の年が一回だけありましたが）で、今年は、和真君が女子グループにうまく溶け込んでいました。Jennyのところの二人の子どもたちとも、かなり仲良くなれたようです。東京に来たらポケモンセンターに連れて行ってあげるという約束に、Liamはガッツポーズでしたよ！
There was always (or almost always) only one boy in the group. Kazuma was the one this year, staying in Jenny and Mike’s. He blended in with the group-minded girls and did a nice job! He promised to take his host brother to Pokemon Center in Tokyo!

あかりさんとかのんさんは、最初から涙で言葉にならなかったようですが、セサリオとエバはわかってくれていました。２週間の計画通りに、いろんなことをして楽しんだようですね。それから、個人的には私から、かのんさんに感謝を言いいたいです。彼女には、私からのメッセージをみんなにLINEで回してもらう仲介役を、何度もしてもらいました。本当に助かりました！
Akari and Kanon felt overwhelmed with emotion, so not able to say their appreciation clearly to Sesario and Eva. But they had a great time doing so many planned activities. I personally want to say many thanks to Kanon who got my message first and sent it to all the students by LINE, acting as a go-between them.

茉利奈さんと麻衣さんは、ワヒラとケビン（娘のアシュリーは今日会場にはいませんが）のところで、いろんな人に会ったようですね。ケビンが熱心に料理をしている姿が、ずいぶんかっこよく映ったようです。料理ができることはいい夫の条件であることも学びましたね。ワヒラは勘が良くて、彼女たちの単語だけの会話をつなぎ合わせて、よく理解してくれました。
Marina and Mai’s appreciation to Wauhillau and Kevin (and Ashlee not here today). They loved Kevin’s cooking and learned that a good husband can cook well in the house! They were so grateful that Wauhillau understood their limited English. She is so good at it!

侑里さんと侑希さんも、リンダとボブの温かさに感激していました。リンダとボブが年を重ねても常に仲がいい夫婦であることは、見ていて和みますね。リンダの料理はいつもおいしいのですが、量が多くて食べきれなかったほどです。ボブのジョークを理解するのは難しかったようですが、とにかくおかしいことはなんとなくわかって、一緒に笑うことが多かったのは、よかったですね。
Yuri and Yuki also wanted to say their appreciation to Linda and Bob. It was so good and heartwarming to learn that Linda and Bob are a really sweet older couple who have loved each other for years! Yuri and Yuki loved Linda’s cooking and Bob’s jokes! Jokes are harder to understand but they seemed to understand and were able to laugh together!

愛美さんと陽菜さんは、最初かなりいろんなことがあったのですが、マーガレットとマーカスの助けもあって、どんどん生活に慣れてきましたね。彼女たちのいいところは、常に前向きで、何がおかしいのかわからないときもありますが、笑いが絶えないことです！
Manami and Haruna had many things to say to Margaret and Marcus. On the first week they had some small troubles but they’ve got used to the life here and done better and better. It’s good that they are always positive and laugh out loud!

李奈さんと舞さんも感極まって、なかなか言葉が出てこないようでしたが、感謝の気持ちはジェニファーに伝わったでしょう。ジェニファーは仕事がかなり忙しかったようですが、何とか二人をいろんなところにも連れて行ってくれたようですね。二人の子どもとも仲良くなれて、子どもたちが家でどう過ごしているのかも見られたのは、よかったです。
Rina and Mai were also emotionally overwhelmed but they were able to manage to tell their appreciation to Jennifer and her children. They had a great time playing with two boys at home and learned how children are raised at home.

最後には、いつも学生たちのパーフォーマンスが予定されています。今年はあまり練習している様子もなかったのですが、「エビカニックス」の英語版を披露してくれました。真っ赤な衣装はちょっと衝撃的でしたが、それが良かったようですよ。できたら、踊り方をみんなに教えてくれて、子どももおとなも一緒に体操ができればよかったですね。子どもたちもいたので喜んだことでしょう。来年の学生たちへの助言にしましょう！
Then this was the students show time! This year they showed Ebi Kani Exercise Song called Ebikanics. EBIKANICS is a popular children’s song and dance created by the children’s music group. The song is about shrimp (ebi) and crab (kani). With its catchy tune and relatively easy to do movements you won’t be able to stop yourself from shaking your bodies. You’ll probably feel like eating seafood after every dance session.
They danced song pretended to be shrimp/prawn and crab. Shrimps and crabs become red when they are in a hot water, so they put on red plastic bags!

みなさん、本当にありがとうございました。最後にJeanとMelisandeには、来年も私は異なる学生を連れてやってくることを約束しました。学生たちは明日の土曜日は家族と過ごし、日曜日の朝にはお別れで、サンフランシスコに経ちます。週末を楽しみましょう！
Thank you all for everything you’ve done for us! Jean and Melisande, I’ll be back again next year with another group of students! The students will stay with their family tomorrow and Sunday morning we will leave for San Francisco. Enjoy your final weekend, students!
