September 7-8 2019 Karuizawa Trip
To start off the Multilateral Program on a high note, international students joined BGU students and some GSI staff on a weekend trip to our retreat house in Karuizawa. Everyone had the chance to do fun activities like curling and making a magatama necklace as well as visit some very cool places like the Old Karuizawa Street and Shiraito no taki. Mai Chee Lee, one of the US students from the 2019 program, was kind enough to do a short write-up about her experience.

“The Karuizawa trip was a really fun trip. I made great friends and memories. During the Karuizawa trip, I was able to see a completely different side to Japan. Compared to the city life, Karuizawa was full of nature. It was a really calm environment and I really enjoyed it. In Karuizawa, we were able to do many things. We went to see different areas of Karuizawa, such as the Shiraoito no Taki and the old Karuizawa shopping street. The food we ate was delicious, especially at the Taliesin activity park Karuizawa and the Green Plaza Karuizawa. Lastly, being able to spend quality time with the Japanese and International students allowed us to create new relationships with each other. I really enjoyed the Karuizawa trip and would love to go again in the future.”
